Attending the Abigails Support Group
Abigails is the name of OUGM's
weekly domestic violence support group. We named it after a woman
in the Old Testament (1 Samuel 25) who had an abusive husband.
Her one-chapter story gives insight and advice to women on responding to
domestic abuse in a godly way.
The purpose of the Abigails support
group is to help families by providing information and resources on
domestic abuse, finding answers in the Bible, and offering Christian fellowship, discussion, and prayer
support.
The Abigails support group is
available to all women concerned about domestic abuse. The group
currently meets every Thursday that is not a holiday, from 7:00 PM to
8:30 PM. There is no fee, and childcare is available by arrangement.
You can get more information about
the group and directions to the meeting location by calling Judy at
(360) 754-9351, or by calling the Olympia Union Gospel Mission Office at
(360) 709-9725. The meeting is held at a confidential location that is served by a bus line.
At Abigails, anyone who wishes to
remain anonymous may do so by using her first name only. Whatever is
spoken by participants is kept confidential outside of meetings.
An average of 4 to 6 women attend
each week. They range in age from young women to seniors, and come from
all walks of life. Some have left abusive relationships, some are still
in one; some want to find a way to leave safely, some want help and
support in order to stay in the relationship.
Together women in the
group find courage, strength, support, fellowship, and biblical answers
in Christ.
